Thing 1 and Thing 2 had it a lot easier cleaning up the mess they made, than I did trying to complete this Learning 2.0 First, in the hope of joining the ranks of highly successful learners, I signed a contract to give myself the time to learn something new and exciting.
I read about and pondered the effect of the next generation of the web on libraries.
A Climate of Collaboration struck me as pertinent. Libraries have always been collaborative with its users. But as Dr. Schultz points out, we must think beyond being inventory managers. We are a full service, hands on community. We are compelling in our Reading programs, and events that bring the young and old into our environment. From Tax preparation, to Genealogy, to Teen movies, Storytime and Friday evening concerts. People from all walks of life come and enjoy our services. In the computer lab we teach people how to set up email accounts, surf the web and become collaboraters like me--blogging away!
I viewed two blogs on UTube. One was highly technical and I am certain the speaker knew exactly what he was saying. I did not. However, the second one, titled, Web 2.0 in Five Minutes, by Michael Wesch, deserves an award of some kind. It was phenomenal and I got it! I enjoyed it so much I watched it a couple of times. The article Away from Icebergs, makes economic and survival sense. Fortunately under the wise leadership of our library, we have been moving in the right direction for some time. With theannouncement of Gov. Kaine's funding for the joint library between VB and TCC, we are definitely heading for Web 3.0!
signing off...
